Jonathan Monaghan (1986, New York) is a Washington D.C. based artist working with CGI animation. He received his BFA from the New York Institute of Technology in 2008 and his MFA from the University of Maryland in 2011.

Monaghan creates sculpture and animated video installations that challenge the boundaries between the real, the imagined, and virtual. Pulling from populist sources such as religious iconography, advertising, mythology and videogames, he builds absurd, yet compelling, 3D environments and objects

Past exhibitions and screenings of Monaghan’s work have included the British Film Institute, London; the Hirshhorn Museum, Washington D.C.; Shanghai Duolun Museum of Modern Art, China; and the Moving Image Art Fair London. His work has been featured by the Washington Post, Metropolis M, TimeOut NY, ArtInfo, The Huffington Post and NYC TV. Monaghan is represented by Curator’s Office in Washington D.C
