Mdlx lives and works in France. He is questioning the context of art. “What’s an artist’s gesture? How to produce meaning with the exponential overproduction of images and signs? What is the territory of a work of art?” These questions and many others are the raw material of this production.
Champs (2008) For two years mdlx photographed fields using a paradoxical procedure: centering as wide as you can with a full-center field in your viewfinder. Besides the play on words in the title and the depth of field, this work could also be entitled "ceci n'est pas un paysage". It is a flat, built up space, the instant is not the instantaneous one but the eye which comes to a rest, which tries to cut itself off from any request. It is not a freeze frame but a time when images stop. One does not look upward, downward, left, right, this field has no out of field, it is a blurred instant, an infra-ordinary instant.
