Let’s face the public and twirl

Miss Marion (1976) lives and works in Paris. Marion Boucard created the character Miss Marion in 2005 during a performance for the Nuit Blanche event in Paris. Since then, her work has wavered between live shows and contemporary art. She requires the viewers to take part and questions their fondness for voyeurism, using a research process of representation codes of femininity.

In Let’s face the public and twirl Miss Marion pays hommage to the main code of american burlesque strip-tease: the tassle twirling. She sways her nipple tassle to the Let’s face the music and dance tune, played by the big band Nelson Riddle & his orchestra. The changes in rhythm and tassel twirling create a hypnotizing ballet.

Sound “Lets face the music & dance” by Nelson Riddle & his orchestra, original music composed by Irving Berlin for “Follow the Fleet” 1936.
