The Fragments of unused Time series is a meditation on time, media and the art of landscape. Today time is scarce. Information sounds, and images are coming at us at ever accelerated pace. It's impossible to keep up. Paradoxically it feels like we are getting both too much and not enough. With 'Fragments of Unused Time' Penezic and Jordanova hope to challenge this notions about time and content as well as expectations from both video and representation/interpretation of a landscape.
Imagine if television or film content was more like the world of paintings and other non-time-based art forms that can be approached by the viewers on their own terms. Without required period of time to dedicate to it. Where in and out points are viewer's, not editor's, choice. No teasers, no coming next, and implication that you'll miss something if you tune out. There is something comforting about it. Isn't it? You wouldn't have to stop watching in order to start thinking. Unlike conventional films and videos which evolve and conclude, 'Fragments of Unused Time' remain unresolved, are not dependent on time, have no beginning nor ending, and, theoretically, could be presented in any length of time -from one minute to eternity.
In 'Fragments of Unused Time' video artist Relja Penezic and composer Victoria Jordanova are building on landscape traditions from Romantic expressions of religious mysticism through majesty of nature to the road movies of today trying to capture a sense of physical and conceptual place - an amalgam of symbolism and sensation. They see the art of landscape as a tangible meeting point between nature and culture. This view is the starting point for all other concepts they are examining as landscape artists: escapism, exoticism, freedom, discovery, foreignness, anonymity, isolation, passage of time, etc.
