Hans Op de Beeck (1969) lives and works in Brussels, Belgium. The multi-disciplinary visual artist builds and stages contemporary, fictive urban and household locations, situations and characters that seem extremely familiar to the viewer. These include both lonely spots for reflection and crowded spaces, populated at times by bungling characters who tell us something about the way we live today, the paths we follow and how we attempt - with great ineptitude - to deal with time, space and each other.
All together now... is a tragi-comic portrait of three groups of people attending different social gatherings. The camera pans slowly along the three table settings, each depicting a separate event: the first group, comprising people in their late seventies, are gathered after a funeral, at the table set with coffee and cakes, the second presents an elaborate wedding party with the bride and groom and their families, and the final setting shows a birthday party for a well-to-do pater-familias in a tasteful designer setting.
