Gerhard Mantz's animated sequences present continuously changing spatial structures. One floats through endlessly evolving planar color fields. The succession of virtual interiors are similar but never the same, making it impossible to retain where one has been. Memory succumbs to randomizing variations ineluctably moving forward, never reaching an end.
The interiors are not real but mathematically rendered space, where randomizing program variables control movement and form that cannot be predicted. The computer actually becomes the active creative image-producing device of color field variations autonomously structured in space and time.
Conventional notions of architectural stability and permanence dissolve and the weightless and dreamlike movement forward creates an hypnotic stasis in the viewer, much like deep meditation.
